I don't go to the gym every morning, by any stretch of the imagination, but just about every time I do, I see this sweet little old lady, bent over from old age and arthritis, shuffling around doing her exercise routine...in some ways what she's doing is as impressive to me as Lance Armstrong racing the Tour de France...because of what she's overcoming to keep moving...carry on sweet little old lady...carry on:)

Be Honest

It seems like the most important thing to remember in just about any creative venture, whether it's songwriting, playwriting, painting, novel writing, whatever...is to be honest. If you can simply be honest, you will be original, because no one has the exact same perspective as you do, no one has lived the exact same life, with all of the exact same memories, images and experiences. However, if you're honest, you'll also share something that likely just about everyone has felt at some point. It seems like this balance of universality and uniqueness is what makes the best art.

World Vision Benefit Concert

Last night I was part of a benefit concert for World Vision. Marty Dodson, Melissa Fuller, Clay Mills, Joe West and Stephen Clawson also played songs in a relaxed, in the round setting. It was held at my friend Joe West's amazing barn studio in Franklin, TN, Gasoline Studios. It was an absolute blast and they raised a ton of money for World Vision. I'll be playing another benefit here in April, can't wait!

Meeting Bob Harris

While I was in London, I had the distinct honor of having lunch with the legendary Bob Harris and his son Miles. They were both such amazing people and obviously truly passionate about music. This is one of the things I love the most about being a part of the global music community...meeting wonderful people around the world with the common bond that is....the music!!

Playing the Bluebird Cafe

Had a blast playing the legendary Bluebird Cafe tonight in Nashville...it's always amazing to play there and tonight was a sold-out crowd with a ton of energy in the room. Sharing the round were a brilliant new singer/songwriter and cowriter friend of mine Shelley Skidmore...Kyle Jacobs who's written Tim McGraw's "Still", Garth Brook's "More Than A Memory" and Kelly Clarkson's "Sun's Gonna Rise"....and Billy Montana who wrote "Bring On The Rain by Tim McGraw and JoDee Messina, "More Than A Memory" for Garth as well..."Suds In The Bucket" for Sarah Evans and many more great songs. One of the things I love the most about Nashville...you can go out about any night of the week and hear amazing live music and songs and the stories behind them.

Is Art ever "done"

In the studio today with Kevin Dailey workin' on the song "Where You Are" I wrote with my friend Jennifer Hanson. There always seems to be an inner battle with art of any kind. Knowing when to call something done and when to keep working on it. I can't imagine the day Michelangelo called the Sistine Chapel "done". How many countless times did he go back and add a brush stroke here or a shadow there...is art ever really done or is it an ever-changing process that at some point you just have to let go of and move on to the next thing...hmmm:) Regardless, I'm very grateful to get to be involved in the process at all.

Heading back to London in 2 weeks for some more shows, a BBC radio interview and live on-air performance and to do some writing with some amazing artists and songwriters. I'm also looking forward to some excellent cappuccino.

NorthEast Tour Musings

Hit the road from Nashville to CT on Tuesday around 1am w/ my good bud Jesse Terry for an epic NorthEast Acoustic Tour:) We're hitting Brunswick, ME // Stamford, CT // Greenwich, CT // NYC // Philadelphia // and Pittsburgh on our travels over the next 2 weeks. I'm also going to spend a few days in NYC connecting with the good folks at Nettwerk Music and doing a bit of writing. More to come!
